He worked on the arts programme Monitor and in 1977 started LWT’s The South Bank Show.  The programme was de-commissioned in 2010, when Bragg took the format across to Sky Arts.  Melvyn has expanded his range, marshaling discussion shows on BBC Radio 4 (In Our Time).  He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society and of The British Academy and a member of the House of Lords.

Cathy Haslam

Head of Production

Cathy started her career in documentaries working on titles such as Modern Times, Equinox, Cutting Edge, Dispatches, QED, Short Stories, The Moving Picture Show, History of Archaeology and Storyville. She went to ITV in 2000 to oversee The South Bank Show and was soon appointed Head of Production for Specialist Factual and Arts. In 2010 she and Melvyn left ITV and set up Directors Cut Productions. She is responsible for all production output and for the operational running of the company.

Lesley Caton

PA to Melvyn Bragg

Lesley has worked in television for over 30 years.  She started her career as a Secretary at the BBC and after several PA roles in various independent production companies, she joined Darlow Smithson Productions in 2004 as their Office Manager.  In 2012, a friend whispered in her ear that Melvyn Bragg was looking for a new PA/Office Manager and the rest is history!  Lesley works with Melvyn and is responsible for running the office so it’s a safe and happy place to work, and deals with all our HR and recruitment needs.
